Why a school for puppiesé

Before the age of 6 months it is essential for the puppy to develop certain skills.

He must acquire sensory balance, sociability, awareness of hierarchy, and basic training.

The traditional method, with puppies mixed up together with a group of adult dogs for working sessions, is not appropriate for their psychological abilities and their need for play.

A lack of understanding between the puppy and his human family can lead to tension. This leads to anxiety, which causes inappropriate responses such as barking, destruction, or aggression. When the situation becomes untenable, the owners reach extreme solutions and either abandon the puppy or resort to euthanasia.

AIMS OF PUPPY SCHOOL  

To teach the owner- to understand and to make himself understood.

The owner must learn

-         What the Man-Dog relationship should be

-         How the should communicate with a puppy

-         The place of the puppy in the house-What is not allowed

-         How to improve the social behaviour of the puppy

-         About hierarchy, and how to make it respected

-         Basic training by positive reinforcement according the Natural Method Joseph ORTEGA

-         Basic care and grooming for the good health of the puppy

-         Good citizenship so that the puppy is not a nuisance to passers-by and does not soil the footpaths

-         How to react to inappropriate behaviours

-         Control of the dog in all circumstances.

To teach the puppy- So that it is happy to learn and at ease everywhere

-         Socialisation with its species (intra-specific), with well trained puppies and adults

-         Ways of communicating with its fellows through play

-         Socialisation with other species (inter-specific)- humans

-         To allow itself to be handled by and to play with strangers or people of different types, in disguise, etc.

-         To accept varied stimuli: visual, tactile, olfactory, gustatory

-         To adapt to different situations

-         Basic learning through play according to the principles of the Natural method: coming when called, walking to heel, sit, down, stand, stay, fetch

-         To respond to verbal signals (orders) or gestures (orders from a distance)

-         To get used the town, and to control his behaviour (exploratory, greeting, elimination)

Division of classes by age

Nursery; from 2 to 4 months

Primary: from 4 to 6 months

Class teen: 6 to 8 months – 8 to 10 months – 10 to 12 months

Remedial class:

The puppy that arrives late (5 to 6 months)

The puppy that has learnt nothing and is running wild

The puppy with a specific problem: socialisation, hierarchy, fear, phobias, etc.
